Foundations & Footings
Poured Pier Foundation
Large structures like pole barns or steel frames require specialized concrete pier foundations due to concentrated weight bearing at single points. Pier sizes vary based on point-load. Also used for porches, lean-tos, decks—optimal when building on un-compacted berms. Most economical foundation, doesn't require slab (though slab may be added later).
Trench/Frost Footing
For homes or stick frame structures, continuous footer is required. Most economical method for full frost protection to prevent frozen pipes and floor heaving. Requires concrete slab at time of construction.
Basement/Retaining Walls
Depending on property contours, foundation or retaining wall might be best. Great for tornadic midwest conditions. Makes best use of space where major excavation required. Site visit required—every wall differs based on grade and structure size.
Interior & Exterior Slabs
Standard Concrete
BOSS Sheds standard floors are 4" (4000 psi) slabs with 2' on center rebar and 3-4" gravel base. May be smooth finished (interior) or broom finished (exterior traction). Additional strength via increased thickness, rebar spacing, fiber mesh. Relief cuts control cracking. Options include under-slab piping for radiant heat, insulation, decorative colors/stamping.
Decorative Concrete
From diamond cut slate to realistic wood planking or cobblestone. Color added before pour or acid stained after. Consider traction, color, stamp design, relief cuts, thickness.
Tear Out & Replace
Residential or commercial. Time-sensitive operation for driveways, sidewalks, patios, parking lots. Proper equipment, signage, planning ensures minimal yard damage and clear work zones.
